    Poem Commentary

    While going through some old notebooks, I found this poem. I wrote it back in '87, and it has special meaning to me. At first I didn't want to post it, but I thought it might help someone.

    1987

    How did all this happen
    in such a short amount of time
    We only spoke a few days ago
    the conversation still fresh in my mind


    You said you were having problems
    and you wanted to make changes
    We were such close friends
    now it feels like we're total strangers


    Things could be different
    if only you had come to me
    I would've done anything to help you
    no matter what the problem could be


    You can't take this back
    and correct this mistake that you've made
    Do you really think it was worth it
    considering the price you paid


    I guess all that's left to say
    is goodbye my friend
    You've made your choice
    and with that, this friendship ends


    Now that you're gone
    I feel so alone
    all that remains of you are memories
    and the words on your stone

    fortune cookie wisdom even then...i like when you open upget to know alittle more about you. i thought it was beautiful.

    Saw date title and had to read just to see what missed back that far. Poem touched me because retired Army 1 Dec 87.... and often look back... and wonder what if.... also where does time go...

    Thx- time always flies when we look back. This piece kinda defined this year because it changed the way we lived. Thx for the read.

    Thx- We were a close group of friends, had been through a lot, then this happened. Nothing was the same again. It is true though, time heals all wounds, but still, scars remain.

    This is a powerful tribute. It may be a sad one, but still a tribute. The pain suicide leaves behind can be unbearable for those who loved that person. It is such a crime when a life is taken from us in such a selfish way. Great job expressing the emotional battle of those of us whom have to deal with it.
