    A BETTER WAY

When I was growing up life was real hard, tried to keep my faith in a so called god. It barely worked but I had to persist cause I got tired of seein my mother hit by a mans fist.

So called MAN, he'd get drunk and wanna holler beat my mother up and drag her down by her collar, oh dear LORD, make it stop I'd pray or take me outta this world and show me a better way.

A BETTER WAY, never came too soon you see, I watched my father rape my sister's while he'd just beat me, drink all day and then laugh as my mamma cry, wake up to find my mamma with a black eye.

I don't have nothing to live for I'd say as I cry and close my eyes and prayed for a better way.

Years passed boy was I amazed, when they split up and went their own ways. But in my mind I still couldn't escape the truth! Instant re-play of all that damned abuse. Couldn't run from the feelings that grew inside I had to get away so I chose suicide.

Unsuceessfully achieved yet alive by a thread, but why was I alive when I wanted to be dead? No hope ahead just a light in a latern inorder to achieve I'd have to slay the dragon. By letting the whole world see how he lived so trife, how he abused us all and his comman law wife.

Other's have to know so I can find me, dig deep within my soul and set my mind and my body free. So every night before I lay I pray, for GOD, to take him outta this world and show him A BETTER WAY!

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
