A DAY OF TERROR AND LIGHT

Jan. 5, 2010

I ventured out into the world today.
The day was cold and cruel and dark and grey.
Nothing could warm my poor soul.... ‘cept the son.
I walked away.... Having no protection.

As I looked up, dark clouds gath’ring above.
I was pelted with hail....there was no love.
What should I do.... and where else could I go?
No where to hide....from this evil below.

I ran helter skelter... in awful fright;
Knowing not, where to go... their was no light.
Asking for help....there was no one in sight.
When suddenly .....a man saw my great plight.

He raised his umbrella, over my head.
Stopping the pelting....the dark and the dread.
His eyes of mercy.....showing that he cared.
Knowing in that instant... our lives we’d share.

I asked where were you.... when I first set out?
“Waiting for you... to turn back and call out.
With you, I can’t go... When you go astray;
Under my umbrella...choose now to stay.”

Thank you, Izzy. I usually just spell things out exactly what I mean. I tried to write this one with a bit of mystery. I'm so glad ,when people get the true meaning, like you did.

If people would only realize that they have to ask God to help them. If they would only realize that when they ask the Righteous Judge Jesus Christ for His help, it should be with humility. Nice poem once again !!!

thank you so much ccslim. Your opinion means a lot to me.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
