    A Night in New York

    A blizzard of love, a cloud of lore,

    What of this world could hold the cure?

    New York City lights flashing,

    No time to waste,

    My how I adore this place;

    Up winding stairs I walk and climb,

    To the top where poets practice rhymes-

    I peer about once through the door,

    I see the pearly Manhattan shore.

    Couches lay scattered around,

    There are artists from all over town;

    Painting, writing, song, and dance-

    The air is warm, and flows with romance,

    Through the sky falls the luscious sun,

    And the night life has only begun-

    Champagne bottles pop and pour;

    The fizzling bubbles splash about the floor.

    The roof top is lined with colorful lights,

    And from its edge are the city sights-

    Lady Liberty and Times Square,

    How did I find this bohemian lair?

    Beautiful women, and handsome men,

    Occasionally scribbling with little ink pens;

    Through the night, poetic verses are shared,

    A feeling a love swirls about everywhere.

    Smoking cigarettes in a classy fashion,

    Spilling our hearts with linguistic passion-

    Hymns, Epics, Sonnets, and Prose,

    Through the night, our words slowly flow;

    What emotions, what stories,

    Oh how far are my worries-

    Laughter, tears, love, and fear,

    I’d give anything to never leave here.

    Hours slowly fall away-

    And caught I am by someone’s ways,

    Sitting close now, a beautiful view,

    Finally living, feelings so new;

    Blonde hair, and a white dress,

    Through my hair her fingers caress-

    We share a drink, and speak our minds,

    Two young lost artists living in crazy times.

    In the sky appear shades dark and blue,

    The breeze is whirling soft and cool,

    Still holding each other, barely awake-

    She looks at me and my heart aches,

    Shakespeare would’ve blushed;

    If only he saw the way our lips touched,

    Another day, another night-

    My soul filled with such delight,

    But oh how sad, and oh what a pity,

    To end this night in New York City.

    Om my, how this makes me miss NYC. I rasied my children in the Hudson Valley and love the beauty of upstate but Manhattan is where my heart is. I lived there a little over four years when I flew for American. You capture the whole artsy thing so powerfully as well as the heart of that great city. I long to live there again.
