A Piece Of Me

A Piece Of Me

I am disconnected from my writing
from myself
My sense of direction which once guided me
now leads me astray
I would like to tell you I'm lost
but I know where I hide
Within these words, that bend to my will
For they are my greatest strength
my God given gift
Used to enlighten, to quench a thirst
to evade pain
To keep me a safe distance
from the life I once knew

If this is a gift, then why does it hurt
Am I destined only to reveal
wallowing in these halls of dismay
missing my chance for a normal life
Cutting these wounds into my soul
so I can sing an opera of screams
Your entertainment comes at a high price
How much more do you want
Will it ever be enough
Peel my flesh, savor my pain
Beat me down and scorn me to hell
so that I may feel again

Give these words meaning
from my sorrow....

Give my sorrow meaning
from these words

Artie - you reached deep into your soul for this one, and then bared it for all to see. Thank you for sharing something so intensely real.

You re truly gifted and I always enjoy where you take me.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
