    a small recollection

El Paso to Tucson en route to Oregon

    via San Diego 1971'

me and my red 1967 MG Midget

running along side the Mexican border

on an all night drive to Tucson

a voice from the clear channel radio implores me

"Get your life like stature of Jesus Christ. It glows in the dark, use it as a night light for your children."

Send just nine dollars and ninety five cents to

    Jesus Christ, spelled J E S U S C H R I S T

Jesus Christ in care of station W A D R Del Rio Texas.

I take a drag from my cigarette

blow the smoke side ways out the window

    look ahead

watch the headlights of my Midget gobble up the road

look into the rearview mirror at the darkness following

pull up the can of beer from between my legs

take and long drink and think

there really is a Twilight Zone

Some times the twilight holds the truth of who we really are great write

(take "a" long drink and think) I love this poem because it sets me behind the wheel. I feel the long road drive. Once form central California to Salt Lake non-stop. I even dreamed of devouring the dotted line for nights afterward. I just need to see a friend. And through the twilight I went. A poet friend//RH Peat

No joke, and you just entered it during your long, all night drive from El Paso to Tucson along the Mexican border. If you'd opened and drank more beer faster, chances are you'd have seen Kokopalli's like I saw when I made my drives through there late at night.

I thought I met you two going down that road. I was the one dancing with Kokopalli. :-)
