A Soldiers Dog Tags

An American joins the military
He is given dog tags for identity
If that soldier loses his tags
He becomes a nonentity

Our soldiers are precious
to those of us at home
Without our soldiers we'd have to deal
with terrorism on our own

Whether that soldier be abroad or state side
He is still an important soldier
I for one am happy we have them
so I don't have to constantly be looking over my shoulder

When my father passed away years ago
With him my son burried his dog tags
And we all agreed since dad was a veteran
We would beside his grave lay several flags

I believe they deserve more respect
from the people they may die for
They experience that which we only read about
And many have been through more than one war

So I raise my glass in honor of our soldiers
And I pray for all of their lives
And when you start thinking your life is too stressed
Try to imagine the seriousness of a soldiers strife

(This is to every American soldier that makes it possible
for my children and grandchildren to live in a safer country)

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
