    A STATEMENT

A couple kids on the Metro
    are playing with a pistol
with a little red light on it
that flashes when the trigger’s cocked
There’s a little flames that flares
    when the trigger’s pulled
    to light a cigarette
    It’s a chrome toy derringer
One of them point it at a woman’s heart
I stare at them – no comment needed
Now the barrel turns toward me
    a red light signals “on”

    and this child from nowhere
    squints his eye at me
with as much evil as he can muster
Without that – would he be anyone?

This was an excellent statement - and we both know the answer to the question at the end - we both come from the days of old - when it was only fist fights and Our Father was praised .... Smile KDS

Thanks for your comment way back -- around New Years! I had stopped looking atthe site, because the idea of putting forward poems this way didn't seem effective. Bu now I am playing with it again. Thanks for your comment -- it's always gratifying to know what effect a piece has on someone.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
