Poem Commentary

A new song, about a particular ex-acquaintance. Not the happiest thing I've ever written.

Abject Failure

"Abject Failure"

You wonder why you have no friends
I'll explain it to you from both ends
You have the tendency to be a little liable
You clipped and faded all your time
I see a photograph with you on my right side
It made me sick down to my stomach

You're an abject failure,
A victim on yourself

You follow us around, all fingertips at use
Nothing could ever change your mind
And then at long last, you want to stop
Only there is nothing that survived

You're an abject failure,
A victim of yourself

Your sick center separates from all of us
It started small and grew too large
You lie, cheat, steal and ruin; and wonder why we call you the rat
You still think you're where it's at

You're an abject failure,
A victim of yourself

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
