Aftermath of Abuse
I started with nothing
An empty heart suffering
A huge amount of staggering pain
Not enough sense to get out of the rain
On the fast track to nowhere
Even wondered how to get there
A heart ripped to shreds on the ground
Wondering if my mind would ever be sound
Kept looking for trouble
Regardless of where I went
Always with my last dollar spent
Couldn’t ever pay my rent
Pushing people to the side
No one ever knew how much I cried
Gave up every time the going got tuff
Life to me was difficult and rough
Ran over anybody in the way
Absolutely didn’t know how to pray
Didn’t know if I should stay
It’s true my life was day to day
Then there were kids and a wife
They stopped my life from a downward slide
But today I hold my head up high
Because of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and I
