Poem Commentary

When very young i remember playing cowboy and hiding behind a tree. At that very moment I thought that I hope this moment would last forever. Adolescent to teen and into my twenties, work played a major part. Although still working so I am not bored, I still feel like that cowboy of youth inside but no longer have the body of that boy. I can now understand fact from fiction, that real beauty continues inside me. If you read my poem, take the trip back to your youth, unless you are still youthful and if so, time passes fast. Ken

Age

Age crept slowly into my life, I reminisce over the days of my life, Now the wrinkles the waistline, slowness and strife, Remembering my youth when bold and alive, Thinking I would live forever from deep inside. Little by little the moments go by, Days into years they just seem to fly, I wonder what happened between youth and age, Learning that time is a book not a page. Where the years go and how fast they travel, Remember that moments quickly unravel, Never imagining how fast the trip, Now I know that time passes quick. I am amazed when I stop to look in my mirror, Wondering how this change happened, I begin to see clearer. I realize now that time passes so fast, Although in my youth I thought it would last, Like the turn of a page youth quickly has past. Age gives me wisdom not known as a youth, Now I distinguish the false from the truth, So as time passes I now realize the joy, I missed understanding when just a boy. Ken Haines June 2009

I know exactly what you are expressing, K. Time seems to go slowly when we are kids and I call that "the anticipation factor." We wait and wait for our birthday and it seems like it will never come. Christmas seems to take forever to arrive. And then, as adults, we have so much to do that time flies by and we wonder where it all went. This says all of that and more.

Since I've got you beat by a few years I know that which you write of. Somehow we mellow, apprieciate more and love deeper. Here you've captured what most with some "Age" on them think but cannot or will not express in any form. If you have the time take a look at something I wrote along those lines a few years ago. Mine was from a womans point of view though. Keep expressing and sharing. June

What is the name. When I click on some it always displays "adult content.". Ken

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
