Am I alone

Went to war

Came back four times

Still alone

Loved a woman

Four times

Still ended the day alone

Reached out to others

A dance or two

Ten years worth

Still alone

Ride into the sunset

Still alone

Write poetry

Write letters

Still alone

I swim

I run

I work out

Still alone

I fight fires

Still alone

I’ve done a lot with my life

I’ve survived a lot

But no matter where or what I do with my life

I’m still alone

I’m not understood by any

I’m not Loved by any (woman)

I have to go through all of life’s hardships

Alone

Bear the weight of all my life’s pain

Alone

It doesn’t seem fair

When so much of my life has been spent

Serving my nation or another

Saving homes or lives

When does this so called “Hero”

Get to be saved

From loneliness

I’m condemned

Maybe even cursed

To the fate I’m in

Alone in the sunset

Alone
