ALWAYS
I always try to do my part
By making sure I follow my heart.
The hollow places in my mind
Make me always want to unwind.
Living with the always knowing
Of all those thoughts constantly growing.
Always trying to do what’s right
Not understanding why it’s always a fight.
Always caring, sharing and on the move
Trying always to stay in the right groove.
Not ever knowing what will be next
Leaves my heart at times feeling perplexed.
Doesn’t matter just how hard I’ve tried
Complex struggles again I’ve cried.
Trying to help others and ditch the past
Not ever knowing how long it will last.
Struggling with nightmares on a daily basis
No longer recognized all those faces.
Trying to help people at every turn
Wondering if anybody will ever learn.
Watching people rip from your heart
Seems they were all there from the start.
Knowing you can’t help them all
Hoping and praying you don’t miss the call.
People’s actions make you wonder why
You always work so hard or even try.
Always trying to stop kids from getting hurt
So they don’t wind up feeling like dirt.
Always trying to protect each and every kid
So they don’t have to keep hurting like I did.
Knowing the struggles of what we must do
It’s always going to be left up to me and you.
Hoping we can all make it to the very end
We must let them know we will always be their friend.
Their future certainly will depend on us
Even if we have to pray from daylight to dusk.
