American Soldier

American Soldier

It saddens your soul
As these words you read
But this job I live
And this life I bleed

Dog tags hang
And tears will fall
But the pride is there
Strongest of all

I’ve given life
And harvested death
And spent many a nights
Unable to rest

But this life I chose
And this life is mine
An American soldier
Till the end of time...

Keep writing, Kevin. This is a beautiful piece and I find it very moving.

That was beautiful and oh so true for your life at the time. I too have written a few pieces about iraq and the war in general. I will post all that later. Thank you it was beautiful once again.

great poem. my son is a marine. He's been fortunate to not have to go to the war so far. I appreciate the pride you show in your military standing.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
