An Arm & A Leg

An Arm & A Leg

My heart, it lies tied around my ankle
And it will stay in place until its finally unable
To stay strong and be able to tell my head and mouth
To do something different, to stop making the same sounds

Daily routines, they keep me going
Home is that feeling in my stomach when they say your name
I walk up to the doorstep and I feel amazed
Some people call it love, but love doesn’t stay
You are my home and my friend
I just wish it was the same from the other end

I’d give an arm and a leg
And I sing songs about my oh-so-broken heart,
And ones of my exhausted body ready for a brand new start
To just make it back home again

You are gone
And you will be missed
If I shot myself in the head,
Would you come out the other end ?

I really enjoyed! Lots of nice sounds...assonance and alliteration...if you lost the sound, what would you have? Great ending, love the repetition, it drives the point home.

I really dig the last two stanzas...they flow very well together. As for the first one...keep the message, but work on the method. "If I shot myself in the head...would you come out the other end" Killer line.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.

Walt Whitman, American Poet (1819-1892)
