    UPA GROUP CHALLENGE~PARANORMAL

    AND ONLY ONE BULLET
    I'd a brief acquaintance
    Whom was sane when we'd met
    Got to know him over the years
    Though he'd lived out west

    Time passed
    A decade .. i believe
    He'd moved east .. to my hometown
    No job to be had .. hard luck cloaked him

    I was compassionate
    I'd allowed him to move in
    He'd played a mean guitar
    Entertained all my guests
    Strange happenings occurred along the way

    I'd asked his brother
    When?  .. what caused him to change ?
    He'd replied .. Van had participated in a ritual
    At a wild, California party
    He'd drank dog's blood
    Never was the same after

    I wakened one morning to discover
    He'd drawn occult symbols
    On my girlfriend's forehead whilst we'd slept
    Her screaming .. was chilling .. unforgettable

    The same day he'd purchased a toy
    With bright red lipstick
    Painted dripping, blood teardrops
    Under the doll's eye
    Where he'd stabbed and left hanging a dagger

    I'd asked him why ..
    He'd giggled uncontrollably .. madly ..
    Made a face like a rat ..
    Replied in a squeamish voice .. abstract art

    Evening arrived
    I'd begun playing some cool music
    A female guest had demanded my attention
    She showed me where he'd written
    Satan is his saviour .. on my album cover

    I'd kicked him out
    Called his relatives to please come get him
    Later that evening
    I'd heard the crazy news

    The scene .. a deserted parking lot
    His dad and brother
    Had left him .. alone in a car
    With a rifle
    And only one bullet

    Wow! What to even say in response to that! I was reading another poets plea "Don't Do It" and saw your response about this poem. I came to check it out. Based on your comments to her, it sounds like this was a true story. What a shame! What a horrible, horrible shame. Thank you for doing what you did to try to help this man and I apologize from the universe to you for what happened to your girlfriend, your home and your heart with his evil demise. I'm also curious, seeing how it was entered into a contest, how did this poem fair in the contest???

    Yes, it is a true story, sad to say. Your great comments are greatly appreciated. This poem didn't win, yet fortunately *Yellow Dawn* won OP's 1st year, and *Into Them .. Into me .. Into You* ... won OP's 2nd year. The contest was halted during the 3rd year.

    Definitely a true, disturbing write pertaining to a former friend of mine. There was a time he was very sane before all the spiritual changes occurred with him.

    The fellow this poem is about was real, not made up as many may believe. He was a very good friend of mine until he went off the deep end and never came back. Muchos gracias for the time reading and great comments you always share.
