Another Star

Poem Commentary

Wrotten for a friend whose loved one passed away.

Another Star

I knew there was darkness

But not the depth

I could see your pain

But forgot the meaning

I knew of your anger

But feigned understanding

I could feel your suffering

 But had no solution

My guilt and your aggression

I was caught in the middle

Of your rage and my frustration

There was always a toss-up between

Your highs and lows

What each new day would bring

Whose’ to know

Your emotions against my affection

Would break my hold on you

But I believed

My love was unable to ease

Your insecurities

So you accepted defeat

I did all I could but in the end

It was too much

I guess I wasn’t enough

Thinking it would be easy to say goodbye

You took your life

Now you’re just another star in my sky

Watching over me at night

Where did I go wrong?

I am left here to wonder

My life left simple

What more should I have done?

I grieve with unanswered questions

I may not have loved you the enough

But I loved the best I could

With all that I am

And everything I have

It's so hard to be there for someone choosing to give up on life. being caught between their rage and your frustration is exactly right. Great write. well done. -Tonya

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
