Apart

Look at me when I talk to you
I love you but not your attitude
If things are as simple as you say
Why aren’t you as happy as you claim
It’s so easy to shoot the breeze and smile
When your heart manages to defile
The friendships you wish you had kept
And the past from which you’ve left
Open up to me and stay for a while
You don’t have to go into exile

All you need is right here in front of you
All you want is staring right back at you
Believe me when I say I can complete you
As I am I’m too close to be apart from you

All you need is right here in front of you
All you want is staring right back at you
Believe me when I say I feel your heartbeat too
As I am,  I’m too close to be apart from you

Rainy days don’t mean a thing without us
They’ll be around long after we’re dust
Sunshine will defeat them like our trust
When we’re going down we can adjust
I’ll listen to you when you need the truth
Listen to me when I say that I love you
Each and every time you read my mind
And open up your curious eyes to find
Some difference in me you reluctantly
Took the time to peel apart and gleam

All you need is right here in front of you
All you want is staring right back at you
Believe me when I say I can complete you
As I am I’m too close to be apart from you

All you need is right here in front of you
All you want is staring right back at you
Believe me when I say I feel your heartbeat too
As I am, I’m so close that I’m a part of you

Before you leave let me explain
Just the thought of you makes me remain
Happiness is something I thought I knew
Until we locked eyes and I found you

I especially like how this poem opens up in the first two lines. It's as if the remainder of the poem tries to pull the other person toward them through expression of feeling. I liked it.

Wow, I enjoyed this write. It made me think of my wife to be and the trials and tribulations. The emotion in the poem was very well expressed.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
