Poem Commentary

written for my poetry class

Apple of My Eye

Hanging there on the tree of life.

A flash of glistening fire in a sea of leaves.

Sweet.

 Young.

So little in this big, big world.

I cradle you in my hands.

Slowly caressing your smooth dainty skin.

Your red and freckled skin.

Passionately I kiss your supple face.

My lips pressed, so tightly, to your smooth skin.

So sweet, so young, so juicy, so pure you are.

I lust for you.

So sweet I could eat you.

Biting, slowly sinking my teeth into your flesh.

Your juices are heaven on my pallet.

Your delectable flavor dances so divinely over my tongue

And down my throat.

Your flavor, so intoxicating.

So pale beneath your skin.

White and innocent, little and frail .

I eat your innocuous body away.

Down to your core .

And I toss your corpse aside.

Used up, gone, worthless.

But still.

You are the apple of my eye.

I'm also very impressed with your metaphors. Very stunning imagery, kind of scary in its vividness.

Absolutely adore the metaphorial content in this one, especially how you use it to make strak contrasts in the final third of the poem. "Your corpse" is a stunningly emotive image.

I love the visuals you've created with this, and the metaphors are outstanding. Very nicely written!

Thank you

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
