    April 22, 2007-- Sonnet V

This mortal arid shell, which holds within
A silver sliver of a soul which is,
Shall dry completely from inside, and then
Will crack, will fall to dust, and what sweet bliss
Will follow for that soul, now free to fly!
What joy of living now at last is his
Alone! What glory and what light in eye,
In hand, in heart, will lift with love to kiss
The sky and rise so effervescently
To God in his high throne! But must, as men,
We wait for such an overwhelming by
And by, wait in this pained and tainted sin-
Infested body? Rejoice!--For what has been
That’s good, remember tears that helped to rend.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
