Poem Commentary

written for my poetry class

Ars Poetica

Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme.

It doesn’t have to be loud and colorful like a rainbow.

Poetry can be silent, black and white like a mime.

Poetry can be as faint as a moonbow.

A poet’s style can change just like the weather.

Poetry doesn’t have to be stiff, it banes like elbow.

Poetry can be simple or clever.

It can sink like rock.

Poetry can float like a feather.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
