Poem Commentary

This is a poem about my life. Life has different stages and I have been through almost all of them. This poem is about the stage of life that I am in.

As I grow older

As I grow older

I am becoming more like myself

And less like others.

I still look and act

A little like my brothers.

The world has lost

Its influence on me

I’m slowly becoming

What I want to be

My body is old

It grinds and it creeks

I can go with out love

For a couple of weeks

My face is all wrinkled

My hair is half gone

A round pudgy shape

Replaced my muscles and brawn

A memory that’s dire

My sight has grown dim

My hearings impaired

Finances look grim

But, my outlook is great

My mind-set is fine

And I like my attitude

Because it is mine

I’m not afraid

To be home alone

Or go to a party

And wear cheap cologne

I never meet people

I care to impress

I’m just me

And I don’t need the stress

Never making a million

Without fortune and fame

I enjoy everyday

I’m at the top of my game

So hold back the tears

No need to feel bad

There’s no need to worry

About this dear old dad

This is really good. I like the story behind the poem. It is funny how we change on the outside but the same young funny person still resides in this old body. Great write.

Thank you for your comment. I have 7 grandkids and they are the greatest. They have increased my positive life experiences Listen to their words for Children are full of wisdom I have learned to take life as it comes. My mom always said "life is real, make the most of it". You can fake your way through this life , 'but you will enjoy it more if you just be you. Thanks and say hi to Maddi

Excellent Poem! Loved it so much. As we grow older, hopefully, we all take this attitude. It's healthy and genuine! Great Write!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
