    As the Dream Comes Alive

    Has our nation America finally
    Come of age historically
Going beyond the boundaries of bigotry
    Electing a President of ebony

And as many believe is this prophetic
    To a wonderful dreamer’s dream
    Or a temporary anesthetic
To calm the turbulence of destiny’s stream

Looking at the stream there is turbulence
With which the whole world has to cope
In city and hamlet there is violence
But in spite of it all there is hope

Who knows what tomorrow may bring
The solutions will not come overnight
Will nations unite in alleviating the suffering
As we strive to make things right

One thing for sure change has truly come
And there is a feeling of joy in the air
All in the united election of one
By those whose skin is both dark and fair

But is it about skin color at all
Or have we as a nation finally arrived
And breaking the back of racism finally stand tall
As the dreamer’s dream comes alive

    H. Wilson

A compelling question with an answer that has yet to be defined – A milestone had been certainly been reached that tells us we are headed in the right direction, but we must always be on guard for those who live for no other purpose than to tear down whatever progress we make. The question will be answered (to me) when we reach that state so eloquently described by the late, great Dr. Martin Luther King – When a man is no longer defined by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character. Well done, brother!
