At The End

At The End

Eyes twinkling brightly

Arms holding on tightly

Pictures shared together

Memories lasting forever

Laughter ringing merrily

Silence audible barely

Days ending quickly

You growing sickly

Love always strong

Something going wrong

Side by side

Arms stretched wide

Weaker by the day

Don’t go away

Tears slowing down

New hospital gown

Comprehension sinking in

Where to begin

Breathing fading fast

Treasuring the past

Eternally best friends

Life finally ends.

Thought bringing gloom Dark, dying room Better one's own Farewell at home Priceless last kiss Starts forever miss And so life goes, just slipping away. Love stays behind. Wow, you nailed this one. Harv

Thank you!! I was inspired by watching my great grandmother leave us last year. It was hard but she was ready and had a very full life.

Thank you!!!! It reminded me of several people when I wrote it. I lost my brother when he was 17 and my great grandmother last year. I think it can apply to the love of any family member or loved one though depending on the reader.

I was not there when my best friend from college passed, but I spoke to him near the end. He could not speak back for he had throat cancer. Though 2000 miles away the nurse called me to tell me of his passing-- friends for enterity. Love, peace and freedom, Olan.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
