Avis' Tulip

Poem Commentary

My grandmother Avis, wrote poetry and this is in honor of her and her talents that she shared so generously.

Avis' Tulip

Avis’ Tulip

 Sweet Tulip, lovely and grand,

Velvet petals reaching for the sky.

You pose upon my tabletop,

A lovely place to rest my eye.

Your beauty may fade and wither,

And your petals shrug and sigh,

But your splendor lives on in my heart,

Never a final good bye.

Next spring a birth, a welcome home,

My hearts content you don’t deny.

You’ll come again and stay a while,

My Joy, my friend, my faithful ally.

Excellent piece and heartwarming toi read. I enjoyed the comparison of the flower to the friend. 10

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
