Backseat

I'm being still.
Words whispered in my ear warn me not to move.
Tell me that one twitch could find me out.
So I'm keeping really still.

I'm being quiet.

If I speak then I must move.
If I move then I would die.
So I'm keeping really quiet.

I'm being invisible.

Being invisible means they won't see.
If they don't see I won't have to move.
So I'm keeping really invisible.

I'm being erratic.

I'll cry for attention, so that they'll ignore the truth if I slip.
Slipping is moving.
So I'm keeping really still.

thank u!

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
