    Barbwire Landscape

My soul trembles due to the vibrations of the night life
    Blinded by the city lights
Where I reside they indulge in crime
Passionate about the dark side of the line
Most choose to walk the trapeze
Forgotten athletes walk these gritty streets
Urban Cinderellas on their knees weeping to be free
The motherless child worships the beast
    Embracing the concrete jungle
    Embracing the everyday struggle
    A melting pot of despair
    Adversity thick in the air
The continuous hustle keeps us in a tight squeeze
My people and I are breathless
They try to correct this by policing the state
    Our barbwire landscape
    We need an escape
We hold the keys to our fate
Meet trials and tribulations face to face
No longer do I trace the lines
Draw from inspiration to free the mind
    From this barbwire landscape…

this poem speaks about the struggle of everyday life, and trying to break free from the discrimination of life itself. Very powerful. Peace! Carolyn
