    Poem Commentary

I had a short primer on cosmology 101. I deleted the poem to enter it in the survivor contest and forgot to copy the preamble. It has gone the way of the void. I only remember that approx 75% of the known Universe is called Dark Matter. The remaining 25% that we know of is Baryon Matter (that which is of light properties) planets, stars and galaxies. A Black hole is a rift in space time and matter, which is belived to have a dominance of gravity so intense, that light itself doesn't escape Event Horizon. The Event Horizon is the edge of the curve of space influenced by the Black Hole, a point at which if crossed over is impossible to recover from. From star to star there is an emission of energy consisitng of many levels of dynamics, called Solar Wind. I embellished on the science to ramp it up to a Galactic Wind ( the galaxy generating a combined solar wind, from the mass of all stars) A nebula is a new and gaseous galaxy. I hope it's clearer than mud

    Baryonic Ghost

Haltingly assess another nebula in birth

Light years removed from a semblance of mirth

    Frigid eons perpetually will roam

This haven transport, none dare call home

A black hole’s vacuum has nearly consumed

    Enlightened minds rocketing toward doom

The swath of this path immeasurably wide

As gravity’s claws tear, ne’er subside

By void’s grip, Dark Matter host

I witness the call to the Baryonic Ghost

Said of in epochs impending demise

Those Faithful expectant had Light in their eyes

    Awesome beauty, the fatal attraction

    Has dismantled worlds arrested inaction

None will deny the way of Orion

Or return from the plane of Event Horizon

Wander not wayfarers on the curve of times’ edge

T’will lick hollow the words of life that you pledge

Remember the Wind, superseding black dread

Head on to the Madness that draws all the dead.

The Wind, in heed to dire supplication

Suspended Dark Matter and plied gravitation

Survivors now, of the cruel pitch host

Gratitude of galaxies, to the Baryonic Ghost.

Mr Riggins, I'm downright embarassed to admit in my half-blindness, I thought your title was Byronic Ghost and I was all prepared to read a delightful poem about Lord Byron. Once into it and realizing my mistake, I continued to read, and found myself still delighted, for your poem is beautifully written and poses thought-provoking ideas. But it does (along with the myriad treatments currently circulating...TV documentaries, action films, etc., .. about space and the approaching END OF CIVILIZATION) leave me shaken to the core, quakin on the floor, and makin for the door! When the end of the world does arrive, it's bound to be quite spectacular... and, sadly, talented poets, such as yourself, won't be around to address it.

"Awesome beauty the fatal attraction"-True in nature and in life! This is mind expanding poetry my friend! You must spend more time reading than I do! Impressively stellar word use!

Thanks, Sam. for your great compliment! I don't rread as much as needed, and even have to re-read to 'get it'. I'm glad you liked it... again.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
