    Beatnik Bar

Bad lighting and cheap gritty gin
Rumored to have been a speak easy
Barretted old cool cats sneering at sin
    Bad poetry, tom-toms, so cheesy

Dressed in black, black is the new black
    Mistaking angst for experience
High drama to make up for what they lack
Their history is in the current tense

Old jaded hip cats, evil waiting for prey
The smell of tiparello’s and opiates pervade
New, avant-garde, Just like Hepburn in her day
A dearth of brains, unable to deflect or evade

As they harvest the old evils laugh and leer
Netted cod in black, black is the new black
Into corners and back rooms with a sneer
Wicked old jaded cool cats in shadows black

i loved the sense of era this poem had. the lingo captivated the time period elegantly. reminds me of bukowski...one of my favorites so great job.

Very interesting topic and scheme. I like it. It takews me back to gangster movies. Nice... Ginga

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
