Beautiful Death

Beautiful Death

Gunshots shower the streets and they are loud But silence after is louder
Clamor and the chatter on a quiet road that you think you hear when walking home.. the darkness accompanies you as if it were the piano notes of bach
As if it was placed there..
The Snare and the hiss of silence that kills
The gunshots that ring that claim the innocent
Will there ever be a beautiful death?
Lives not finished.. the sentence fragments that are everlasting fragments
The incident that frayed the filament of life
Or or  the strife that took his life
So quick in
One movement
Will death ever be beautiful
Death?
My swollen tounge flinging the swirling cipher through your ears
because I speak the truth
As if these words were tattooed on the black of my tougne because they flow so easily
Will there ever be a beautiful death?
(Because we traded out unity for division our cotton sacks for drugs
Our nooses for guns ourselves for jays and ones) And I know it seems like the don't understand us but We've seen it all I know some of you get frightened when you hear a dog bark
But have you ever been chased home in the dark
By things you don't even know of
Seen dead bodies bullets  flying through windows?
Nah you haven't seen the crap that we go through
Dorthy lied cause there isn't any gum drops and birds singing on this side of the rainbow
Just kids in distress trying to make it through
We try to make the best of it like yellow but its still blue
We try to go to school but the streets call them too
Our ignorance
Because they hammered chains around our necks now we hang chains around our necks
And we rep our sets but it seems like WE forgot where WE came from
Cause there is more to life them shooting your .45  and when will WE decide that all of this killing is genocide

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
