Poem Commentary

This is a poem about my friend. I found out that she passed away recently from ovarian cancer. She was truly a beautiful person full of life. She knew what it meant to be a good friend.

Beautiful

I wasn’t there when you disappeared

But I can’t get used to the idea of you not being here

You were always gone

But you would pop up out of nowhere

I guess this time you’re done

You lost this fight

But you fought long and hard

Now your friends are left behind

We have to bear your scars

But that’s what happens in the end

You’re beautiful inside and out

Forget the darkness

 The poison that settled in

It was an ugly destruction of what had been

It is the heart that matters now

It isn’t fair

Our friendship was only just beginning

You were too young to leave

I guess you were too good for this world

You now have the peace you’ve needed

And why are we angry?

We ask -What right does God have to take you

Away so early?

I guess It is because you loved with your whole heart

I can only be honored that in your life I played a small part

You touched so many

Inspire me to believe that it’s good to dream

And I should never go a day living without

Doing what I love or living in the moment

Knowing that home is where your roots lay

Always appreciate a time to play

Stay young as long as you can

Count on your friends

This is what you taught me

Every time I needed someone behind me

You believed in me

I would have stayed by your side

All this time if I knew

You were so weak

But I will not forget

The words you said

Stay true and always love what you do

So I promise you now

That I will honor your life by smiling bright

Standing up for what I believe

Staying young and have fun

I would scream out loud

With joy if only

If my soul could be as beautiful as yours

Inside and out
