beauty

Where does the key to beauty lie?
Is it a gleaming smile- the dimensions of a supermodel’s size?
Is it the power to get what you want whenever- wherever?
Is it the charisma- the charm to say something clever?
Does it go much deeper than that?
Is it more than being flawless or having a stomach that is flat?
Beauty is power we have come to learn is true
Ravishing faces- nice bodies cloud our view
They say Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Yet some of us receive criticism & the cold shoulder
Is beauty what we wear on our bodies & faces?
Is it the need to be famous with our names in lights?
& seas of adoring fans in many places?
Is beauty Our Own creation or is it what society’s says is the norm?
Is each coat of mascara- intensive training at the gym to assume the perfect form?
Maybe it’s just that we care too much
That we paint our faces & make a big fuss
We open magazines filled with the beautiful ones
Wanting what they have
Realizing on Our blank canvases faces rejected & sad
We need to look beyond appearances & covers
Realizing we have Our Own beauty to uncover

Very true...good write!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
