Best Friend

We used to be so close, best friends for life
Now we've moved on, I'm a mom and a wife
And you went your own way in life just as I did
But I still can't help but think of the fun we had as kids
You have your own life now, and I fear I'm not in it
But I miss you every day, every hour, every minute
So much has changed, but my love for you remains
I just hope and pray that somehow you still feel the same
It hurts to know that we grew so far apart
But I want you to see you are still in my heart
I lie awake at night and think about our past
And it kills me to know that I couldn't make it last
I still try to talk to you every once in a while
Saying how much I miss your laugh, your hugs, your smiles
But I can't force you to answer but still I always try
And when I hear nothing back, it's so hard not to cry
It seems like just yesterday when we were connected by the hip
But now I barely remember the smile on your lips
Maybe one day you will open your eyes and see
The friend you've always needed the whole time has been in me
Until then, I guess I will live my life as I always do
But always in my mind will be my memories of you
Laughing, playing,cooking, jumping on the bed
Dancing with me to songs we can't get out of our heads
Looking through old pictures laughing at ourselves
But now the memories are collecting dust on the shelves
No matter what you do in life, I will always be there
And when you feel so alone and feel like noone even cares
I will be by your side through good things and bad
Reminding you about the happy times in life that we had
I know your life is busy and you have so much on your plate
And believe me when I say this, I can understand, I relate
But no matter how crazy my life gets for me
I will always miss how close me and you used to be
And I will never walk away or turn my back on you
I will be by your side for everything you go through
I will not give up this friendship, I refuse to say goodbye
I will fight for it every day until the moment that I die
