Biblical Vermont and New Hampshire

Where did the love of God go
When I slunk into Canaan
In the middle of the night
Like an unowned mangy cur

What kind word was said
As I walked through Lebanon
Pressed like oil from an olive
Through the crowd in a blur

Outcast, unclean, pariah
Through the streets of Jericho
Even the crazy guy on the corner
Had only curses and a slur

I do not shrink, nor fill with sorrow
Rather I alternately smile and sneer
Biblical Vermont and New Hampshire
I gather and nodding concur

the love of God is shown when we let it shine through us..... nature holds it's own beauty shown to us by God.... so that makes us more beautiful.... no matter how different we are..... love and acceptance only way to stope hate and ignorance.... nice write..... red

The love of God is still there it's the inhabitants who refuse to recognize it. Well said. I agree with ginga's comment wholeheartedly.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
