Bigot Begone

Poem Commentary

Written after a conversation with a bigot, which I had to walk away from.....I got home and vented this onto paper...I really can't stand it when one white racist person assumes its okay to talk this way in front of me because I am also white, automatically assumes that this type of mindset won't bother me....HOW MISTAKEN!!!

Bigot Begone

Sometimes I feel
Like I'm not meant
For this world
Where things and ideas
That seem archaic
And barbaric to me
Are still in existence
It makes me sad
I want to cry
And I wonder WHY???
When someone says,
"I wish we had slaves"
I can't believe
How they behave!
And it makes me
ENRAGED!!!
And very briefly it makes me feel
Like someone would do it to them
So that they can see
How it feels
Who are we?
Human beings
Without the capacity
To feel for another?
To call each other brother?
Why must we control each other?
Why must we debase each other?
Why can't we console each other?
Why must we erase each other?
I feel angry and hate-filled
In this moment
And it is
Utter torment...

Today's society through out the world scares the crap out of me, discussed me, and most troubling is that I have a 14 year old daughter that is raised in the ME philosophy where more strangers of danger exist than do friendly neighbors. Your words fit and paint the picture true of your feelings - thank you for your poetic stance!

I feel your frustration, it's a form of ignorance and self-hate...and sadly, that street goes both ways as there are people willing to hate people for the flimsiest of reasons, and they can be found just about anywhere. I prefer to believe, though, that the reality is that these pathetic haters are the last minority left...and the only one I wish would curl up and die. we are all beautiful, if we choose to be. well written..10

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
