Birdies

Birdies

Little birdies

In the trees

Come sing

A song,

A song to me

I am lonely

And need you

Come raise your voices

In full bloom

I see you at first light

I see you in the night

I wonder what you say

When you sing such a pretty song

Your voices raised

Above the night

The darkness you

Have over some

Won’t you teach me

These ways tonight

So that I

May join the fun

So please,

Little birdies

I beg of thee

Come sing a song

A song to me

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
