Black Woman

Black Woman

Mmm mmm Sleep
I awaken to see her as she sashays across the room

A presence that announces itself before it even arrives

She is a Black Woman

I can tell by her mannerisms that her road has been rough

Yet she carries herself like a lady

Mmm mmm Pause

Just one glance in my direction is enough for me

She personifies the meaning of a slave being set free

She is a Black Woman

Liberated, independent and determined to get by

Her face is painted but her innocence still shines through

Magnificent beauty can never be hidden

Ahhh

No amount of destructive revelations can deter her

Like so many before, her soul is unbroken

Though her body bears the scars in which life was given

She continues to breathe life into this barren earth

She is a Black Woman

To watch from a distance I can stand no longer

I will approach her

Step, step, step

Upon closer inspection behind the layers of camouflage, I can see that she has aged

But her spirit remains youthful

My heart is filled with joy with each step closer

This woman is love

Hence, I came from this woman.

She is a Black Woman

I loved that!keep it up

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
