Blessed Are These Days

Blessed Are These Days

Each day brings the sunshine providing light to guide us through the long day

Each night brings the darkness, opening the heavens, giving us reason to pray

As the days come and go I can’t help but reflect on each one

As one’s time spent in living them can never be undone.

What we invest in each day should be our best not our least

As time wasted on hatred gives rise to the beast

Hearts filled with love provide the souls near to you with pleasure

For blessed are these days that we should covet and treasure

Life is a gift and all that surrounds us a miracle of God’s making

Each tree a masterpiece each creature unique, all equally breath-taking

Man’s journey on earth is all too short and should not be wasted

Drink it in with all your senses; it is there to be tasted

But remember that for each day that dawns and fades into gray

Care for our fellow man is the price we must pay

So reach out your hand and grasp the hand of someone in need

For blessed are these days that gave rise to your deed

The final line to this piece says it all. I really needed to read this piece as it reminds me to live in my tribulation. Not to live for or in spite of, but LIVE in and through my tribulation. Live for sunshine, live for the uniqueness of life, live for the journey, live for the gift, live for the fellow man...live for the days that give rise to my deeds - not my needs. So much perspective...thank you!!!!

Truly a magnificent poem, Hampton. I can feel the author's humbleness, his commitment to others, and to God, echoing through these lines. Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Not many seem interested in reading poems with spiritual themes.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
