To all of you students going to school,
it would be wise to remember one rule:
Think of your books as your friends.

Consider that textbook, all heavy and bound.
There is a lot that's inside to be found:

The Table of Contents is easy to read.
It’s just like a roadmap, a pathway indeed
that will lead you right to whatever you need.

Books are more than just words, there are pictures too.
And tables and graphs and sidebars to view.
Their use can add greatly to complete your task,
to gather more facts without having to ask.

If you are stumped about what a term means,
check out the Glossary and see if it seems
that the meanings are all there to give you a chance
to find what you need with no more than a glance.

The Index is in the book’s very back.
If you‘ve looked elsewhere and there‘s something you lack,
try this handy list that will lead you right to
the something you need without further ado.

For the meaning of words there’s one magic book
that will tell you all if you just have a look.
It can even have pictures, how words are said,
where they all came from and how they are read.

If the opposite is true, what do you do?
You know what to say, but no word comes your way.
There is one more book that is worth a look
to give the right word if it hasn’t been heard.
(It’s a Thesaurus.)

And you won’t believe what can be found
in a big book that's usually around.
It’s published each year and chocked full of facts
like numbers and events, and it‘s very compact.
(It’s an Almanac.)

And if you might need right there on your shelf
your own personal library for use by yourself,
there’s a set of books in alphabet order that will fill the bill.
It has many subjects to use as you will.
(It’s an Encyclopedia)

Where else do you think you could find such good friends
that could give you all of this help to extend
your career in learning as long as you need?
Books sure can be your best friends indeed!
