Broken Dreams

Dreams Carried apon broken wings
Sad a drooping
A soft melody plays behind me
the flicker of candle light
heels clicking
apon a marble floor
Cracked, and stained
spinning round and round
the image before me
stays unchanging
a world once a wonderland
for a young child
now as almost an adult
it shows the broken innocence.
A stone angel
wings broken off
just more rubble in the world
the world that child once looked forwards to
now a broken dream
Monsters lay in wait
Behind broken pillars
the world
in dreams reflecting the body
only 17 yet already falling apart
skin littered by scars
weight slowly leaving
the world reflects it
once fit for a princess
a glowing ballroom
now a empty stone hall
Dreams carried apon broken wings
Dreams carried apon broken wings
Where shall I go?
The waking world?
It holds the same
years of untold sorrows.
17 and carried by broken wings...

                           Dreams carried Apon broken wings....
                                                                Let them carry me away.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
