Burning Desire

Burning Desire

when fire is born
through carelessness or purpose

Beware!

and honor it
for it holds power over us
choose to feed it
or starve and smother
but do not allow yourself
the complacency of believing
you hold power over this force

Beware!

for it is wily and fierce
whether friend or foe
it may lull you into comfort
though you will never be its master

Beware!

whether it be rushing, dancing
glowing, licking,
hypnotizing
honor it and fear it
give it credit due
do not turn your back on it
lest you be caught unaware
and receive the scorching reminder

'Beware!'

This poem is a strong reminder... who be the master of the forces here on Earth-side. Ah, to see the magicians, one might think they have conquered the the unseen powers... and yet... it is revealed repeatedly, an illusion, a trick, slight of hand. Your poem infers passion as well, to replace fire... so it's like a double layer, and always, with fire and passion... powerful.... yes, and to be respected is key from your poem Nice ambiguity.

So true. Both passion and fire can burn hotly, yet the scars from passion burns run far more deeply.

Thanks you so much! I thought the title appropriate, since 'burning' can be either an adjective or a verb. Thanks again for reading!

Thanks you for the kind review! I wasn't sure about the style, so I am happy to hear you enjoyed it!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
