Call to Duty

Call to Duty

I GAVE MY SONS EVERYTHING THAT I HAD
TAUGHT THEM TO WIN WAS THAT SO BAD
REACHED INSIDE MY SPIRIT AND SOUGHT THE TRUTH
AND I WAS CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE
FILLED THEIR YEARS WITH WISDOM AND SKILLS
DIRECTED THEIR BEING WITHIN GOD OWN WILL
REJECTED FAILURE REFUSED DEFEAT
MANAGED OUR LIVES AND STOOD ON MY FEET
PUNISHED LIARS AND WHO BETTER NOT STEAL
WOULD’NT LET THEM PLAY WITH ANYTHING THAT KILLS
REWARDED FORGIVENESS PRAISED RESPECT
THEM GET THEIR THOUGHTS OFF THEIR CHEST
TOOK THEM FISHING IN THE OPEN AIR
FED ANYONE WHO WAS HUNGRY TO SHOW THAT I CARED
VISITED THEIR TEACHERS AT SCHOOL EVERY DAY
MADE THEM DO HOME WORK WHEN THEY WANTED TO PLAY
I MADE THEM STUDY ON HOLIDAYS AND BREAKS
MADE THEM KEEP TRYING WHEN THEY MADE MISTAKES
ALL OF THESE THINGS TURNED THEM INTO FREAKS
MADE THEIR LIVES HARD MADE THING LOOK SO BLEAK
MADE THEM STAND OUT UNLIKE ANYONE
ALLWAYS THE PUN OF JOKES FROM THE DUMBER ONES
MY SONS HAD TO FIGHT ALMOST EVERY DAY
TO PROTECT THIS LIFESTYLE THAT SOON WOULD PAY

sounds like your giving good tips about raising young men. this poem describes love and strength. It takes a lot to raise young men as it is , let alone the everyday struggle we face as a people , however because of love you find it is worth the hardships. an example of pure parenting.

I like seeing an involved parent like yourself. I have two daughters and I expect respect because I give discipline with love. ( and no better love than from our God and Savior, Jesus Christ)

I grew up with a father who was not in my life at all and I think if he would read this he could realize how much he messed up. I am a firm believer that Daddies get Daddy memories....but Dad's don't get shit. VERY WELL WRITTEN!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
