Candle

Candle

There is nothing in the darkness,
Only a flame burning into oblivion,
Unrelenting, indomitable,
Burning until the end,
With one single conviction of faith,
And one single determined goal,
To burn.

Waves crash,
Thousands of times larger,
Yet the candle burns on,
Great gust blows,
So mighty that the trees tremble,
Yet, it burns on.

One indomitable goal,
And that is
The virtues and love and faith of the forgiven,
And the lights of the faithful in times of challenge,
And to the very end,
When the wick runs out,
When there is nothing left to burn,
It burns out.

liberalartist, this is a well executed ode to the power of persistence, and the determination to accomplish one's chosen purpose despite the obstacles that come against you. Well done.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
