    chasing ghosts

you twist and turn on threads of silk
    in and out
    back and forth
    weaving a pattern of despair
    chasing ghosts
    reaching and striving
    just beyond your grasp
as you chase ghosts beyong your reach
    faded images and blurred memories
    as if just yesterday
today you chase ghosts long gone and best forgotten
    a pattern of despair
    these threads of silk
this woven walk-thru of your life
    chasing ghosts
    reach beyond and inside
realize you are simply chasing ghosts
    no more self inspection
    no more self deception
    accept and embrace yourself
    no more exceptions
    chasing ghosts
a pattern not of your own creation
no more exceptions, deceptions and inspections
    simply accept these reflections
a mirror image of truth as you chase ghosts
this woven pattern does not serve you
    or does it?
    reflections of who you are
    who you were
    images of ghosts
    if not now, when?

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
