Combat Trained

Combat Trained

Return from combat
with a combat mind
combat trained
but no combat to find

stressed without reason
and my grip is slipping
farther down the spiral
I seem to be tripping

aggressive nature
in a peaceful place
a thousand tears
behind a smiling face

sit in the dark
well the nightmares creep
watching the nightmares
but I’m not asleep

the soundtrack of death
seems to play in my head
as I drift off to sleep
to hear the screams of the dead....

the line "stressed without reason".....if "anyone" has reason...it is you and all men and women in combat!! God Bless You, always....your poem allows me to feel "the unknown".

This really captures the feelings, thoughts, and emotions of a soldier who has experienced war. The effects from war last way longer than the actual battle.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
