    • Very excited and very grateful. My son Michael will be coming back to American soil in about 12 days I want to thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes and strength.

    Crossing the Neches

The sun finally disappeared below the horizon.
    The road ahead
    Dark and solitary,
    Broken only by the occasional
    Shadowy silhouettes
    Of forest residents
    Intersecting with our intrusion
    Into their domain.

Our pathway through the pines opens
And we cross the Neches River.
    I strain my eyes
    To see the water,
    My attention is drawn upward
    God has sewn sequins
    In the night sky.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
