    Cyclone

How are you able to exist
in a place where no one can fit
    outside looking in
    waiting for life to begin

How do you think you'll know
when it's time for you to go
    forever waiting for the gun
to tell you when to run

    If you choose to hide
allowing life to pass you by
no one will come to your rescue
    and life will forsake you

A cyclone on the horizon awaits
destruction dictated by the hand of fate
from which it seems there is no escape
    Hope has become repetition's slave

In the hidden recesses of the mind
    tiny fragments you will find
like a puzzle missing a piece
    something leaves you incomplete

You search for one more excuse to turn the page
surviving one more day of quelling your rage
    unleashing vengeance upon your skin
passing blame on the demons living within

I still see the glow in your eye
a reflexion of the inner self so bright
and still you display your hate
playing your act of weakness on the stage

    Why can't you see
    that I'm your missing piece
not just a sacrifice for time to fade
to be thrown among the memories of waste

Have you lost the ability to believe
living by only what you see
    dismissing all you feel
as something never meant to be real

    With each passing day
    you distance yourself further away
leaving me no choice but to let go
and watch the destruction of all I know

    The cyclone now in motion
pulling strength from the raging ocean
The battered shoreline stands no chance
The music fades on our last dance

the thing that is so great about your gift as a writer is that the reader inevitably relates to it. your perspective and wisdom are - uniquely - universal :) it's hard to care enough to extend a helping hand - only to have your offer refused, and then watch, helplessly, as the downward spiral reaches it's conclusion. and life goes on, intractable as always, only - it seems the older we get, the more grief we have in our pockets.

Good piece. There are none so blind as those that will not see, nor deaf as those that will not hear.

Great job Artie. I liked this a lot. The cyclone as a metaphor for a a twisted mind. What a terrific contrast. Thanks so much for sharing...Kevin

Watching someone that you care for self destruct before your eyes and knowing that you can't stop it or help is devastating. You've described it perfectly. Well done!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
