Damaged Goods

  • Been on a hiatus for awhile, but I'm back and have the itch to write some poetry.

Poem Commentary

This is a poem about how after my fiance' and I had our baby, she went to visit her parents and never came back. I have been not only battling custody issues, but the feeling that I can never love or trust again. I'm kinda damaged goods now.

Damaged Goods

I feel like the bread
at the bottom of the sack
all squished and flattened
and the store won't take me back
I'm damaged goods now
but its not from what I did
it was the cans you stacked against me
while over there you hid
I didn't see it coming
I was happy as can be
just sitting in the grocery bag
when the cans fell down on me

I don't believe I've ever seen this allegory/metaphor before..but it is exceptionally apt...those damned careless baggers, forever crushing the fragile goods.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
