'DANCING CANDLES"

"DANCING CANDLES"

Warm and soft, it drips through my fingers
Running like a river
Down at the bottom it pools and lingers

Dancing and swaying with the thick and heavy air
Like someone doing the Salsa, so sexy
To watch is one thing, but you can't help but stare

Smelling of white musk, so sweet and nice
It makes you feel good this aroma
Specially made to entice

Outside the air gets heavy, down comes the rain
Rivers filling up holes and pooling like ponds
Off of the leaves it drips and goes down the drain

The trees are dancing with the wind so high
Howling and whistling, bending back branches
Lightning strikes, thunder claps, this you can not deny

Watching the tiny drops on the window pane
Safe and warm, ready to climb under the comforter to watch
The streaks of the lightning, drums of thunder and dancing rain

Safe and snug and so much delight
Candles flickering, storm pounding, heat rising
Like the two lovers under the comforter dancing tonight!

This is an interesting poem - comfy - first and third lines in each triplet rhyming, no set meter to trip you up, and the lovely idea of safe and warm, being under a comforter to watch lightning and flickering candles. That's very homey and sweet. I can put myself there, watching the storm and having the electricity off and candles supplying the soft light. We just had a severe thunder storm around here with hail and trees coming down, and I was happy to be safe and inside.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
