Dark Blue Water

Poem Commentary

Movies...they are a driving force behind many poems I've written. "Message in a Bottle," gets the blame for this one. Yes, it is a "chick-flick," but a good one...because it has a guy in it, and he is a sailor!!! Yeah! Also, playing with the name thing, like Youthful Grace, this poem is me. See, my name is Douglas, and Doug means - Dark Water. I like the color blue, so put them all together and you get the title to this poem.

Dark Blue Water

Behind the wheel she sits,
  then drives away,
in the sidesaddle she rides,
  hear the horse bray.

In first class she sleeps,
  as the plane rolls on,
she's no longer with me,
  but she's not really gone.

Walking, running, dancing,
  I can see her still,
living, loving, laughing,
  I'm weaker than her will.

Sitting while talking,
  holding hands while walking,
in fields we strolled,
  over hills that rolled.

My hand holds no other,
no other my heart to keep,
I read, and read, and read;
  read some more, then weep.

So very much did we share,
a gentle breeze blew her hair,
reflecting in her eyes I could see,
  all she was, with me.

Her glow has not dimmed, faded, or dulled,
she is not lost at sea,
she's present front and center,
in every corner of my memory.

For once upon a time, and long ago,
  she gave away her heart,
to me she gave herself: mind,
  body, and soul every part.

Heading out, far, far out,
to her I go, one last time,
a ship lost, lost at sea,
tis' my bell now; does chime.

Never will we die,
  in spirit we'll live,
for all we are...
is all we had to give.

Wow an amazing poem. Makes ME want to love her or know her. Awesome poem about love between man & woman :)

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
